ok, still waiting on graphics card. Wiring is neater now.
But I'm still having an issue with running video feeds from the internet. The MDD is ethernet wired rather than airport. Its really choppy with maybe 2 or 3 frames per second but perfect sound.
Could this be the video card? I've got 2Gb of ram now so that sorts that end of things. Will the ATi 9700 128mb DDR solve the issue?

Crystal Film for Powerbook screens...it's supposed to make the screen appear brighter and clearer (not sure how that works, but whatever), and I was wondering if anyone has used it/tried it. It's intriguing to me, but I don't want to waste $35 on a gimmick.

Hi all,
Had a google around and can't find much on this and wondered whether anybody has seen this before or knows why this might be happening...The file server is a 10.6.6 Snow Leopard install with Sharepoints being mapped over both AFP and Samba. As an example of the current networked environment I have the following:
User A - Computer A: Windows 7 (Office Basic 2007 installed)
User B - Computer B: Intel iMac 10.6.6 with Office 2008 installed
User C - Server Administrative Account
A 'Management' AFP/SMB share that has permissions set on the root folder:
ACL:
User A - Allow/Full Control/This Folder,Child Folder, Child Files, All Descendants
User B - Allow/Full Control/This Folder,Child Folder, Child Files, All Descendants
User C - Allow/Full Control/This Folder,Child Folder, Child Files, All Descendants
Everyone - Deny/Read (So the share is hidden to other groups and users)
POSIX:
User C - Allow/Read Write/This Folder
Staff - No Access
Others - No Access
(I'm sure wheel should be here too??? - Couldn't find a way to add it!)
Now the problem is that when User A creates any type of office document and saves it, User B can see the documents in the share but when they click on it, the file vanishes from the share! When checking the permissions on the file itself, it seems that when User A creates or edits a new or existing file that the permissions get overwritten as:
User A - Read Write
Everyone - No Access
The same happens when User B creates an Office document and User A opens or edits it!
I also have Strict Locking enabled for the SMB protocol
Have I set the permissions incorrectly or is this just a generic SMB problem??
Any help would be appreciated!!

He cracks me up, he has a very asymmetrical face hehe :)
I seem to recall Craig Federighi demoing Mac OS X Lion and he did a good job. Slightly nervous shaky hands but a watchable presenter.
He got nervous because the gestures for Lion don't work very well on the Magic Mouse. Go back and watch it, he was fine up until that point!
I was sitting there thinking... great, the gestures don't even work for them, how practical or they going to be for everyone when Lion is released? I think they are going to push hard toward the Magic TrackPad from now on. That is fine for casual use, but not when I am doing my pro work like making movies and media etc. :(
They really need to redesign the Magic Mouse to give you more gesture area if it is going to stick around! It is just not practical for anything above 2 fingers, and even that is iffy sometimes!

It's a bit long, but this is a good read about the state of FCP by Philip Hodgetts (http://www.philiphodgetts.com/2010/09/what-should-apple-do-with-final-cut-pro/):

Apple took what was previously a $25,000 color grading application and tossed it into the Final Cut Suite at no extra charge.
ProRes has only be around since FCP 6 and is one of the few additional features that Apple can really hang its hat on. While Premiere doesn't have any first part codecs along the same lines as ProRes it is more flexible and open to third party codecs than FCP is. Why not? The USA for example has only 4 million miles of roads. A car with driver + passenger + some decent equipment should be able to map say 10 miles per hour, at a cost of $50 per hour. 200 cars for a year, that's 20 million dollars. And then you have a database that you can sell, and that you can use everywhere. Then write an iPhone app that lets users make corrections, lets businesses add their locations etc. and you are ready.
You could just buy a TomTom for $150 and have all that, already.
Apple should just roll their own.
They have the power, the talent, the size, and certainly the scale, to go their own way with an excellent chance of success.

Platelet donations take longer than blood donations (at least an hour longer in most cases). You can donate platelets much more often because your body regenerates them so quickly, in a matter of days instead of months. Some people feel temporarily light-headed after donating blood, which is why they insist that you rest and have a snack afterwards. That happens less often with platelet donations.
One thing I didn't know until recently: A lot of donation centers encourage platelet donation because platelets have a shorter shelf life than whole blood and supplies can easily run low. But if your blood type is O negative (you're a "universal donor") and you volunteer to donate platelets, they'll likely ask you to donate blood instead!
Where I work our blood center does double-donations. You can donate blood and platelets at the same time. I'm not eligible to donate platelets because I'm diabetic and they use an anticoagulant in the platelet donation that is dextrose based. We run out of platelets fairly commonly, but I've never seen us run out of blood.
One thing I didn't know until recently: A lot of donation centers encourage platelet donation because platelets have a shorter shelf life than whole blood and supplies can easily run low. But if your blood type is O negative (you're a "universal donor") and you volunteer to donate platelets, they'll likely ask you to donate blood instead!

Coming from an Apple / Mac Fan and non iPhone or iPodTouch kind of Guy & Girl, I sure Hope Apple keeps Sharp on Macs... I was at my 1st and 5th Grader's Parent - Teacher Conference at Chautauqua Lake Central School on 11/18/10 and there were 3 or 4 Macs in each Home Room... I got to believe Steve knows that if they get the Kids Hooked on Apple that they'll be an Apple Buyer for iLife.... We are also ProSumer kind of FCP people and Love our Mac versus the Windows world... Get Your Kids Hooked on iKidsFishing and not on Drugs leads to an Apple a Day keeps the Doctor away... Get it...?
