Hi Ottawa iPad people -- I'm a journalism student at Carleton and I want to know what you think of the new iPad. I'm going to be down at the Rideau Centre tomorrow morning with some film equipment and a couple classmates, so look out for us! If you want to give me a shout/text ahead of time, my number is 613-816-8573. Some of our video work ends up on http://centretownnewsonline.ca/ so check it out if you have the chance. Have fun with your new device.

I was listening to a podcast on this ...Google " Typical Mac User" a recent episode coached anyone to simply fill up the SSD with a video or five and then erase everything back to factory state.

Hi All...
I was hoping for some help and guidance. I've been a network engineer for 15 years now. All of my experience is in the Microsoft arena. Lately, my organization has been adopting MAC / Apple products ( iPad, iPhones, etc. ) but we've now gone as far as to purchase our first MAC desktop system, an iMAC.
Having no formal training in administering an iMAC in a Windows AD Domain ( 2008 ) I've been scouring the internet ( Google ) looking for as much information as I can. So far, I've been able to integrate it into our AD Domain and have network users login and have access to their network home directories.
I am, however, suffering in a couple of areas and was hoping that I could get some real world advice on the following:
1) What is the best way for me to administer this computer remotely using my Windows 7 Pro workstation? Example: Remotely connecting to it for help desk and other needs. Currently I use Dameware NT Utilities to remotely connect and administer my PC based workstations. Is there a similar utility for iMAC's that will run on Windows 7?
2) Login scripts... How am I able to accomplish this on a MAC? My PC based workstations use a batch file to map network drives and other things needed at login.
3) What is the best way for me to be able to control the iMAC through Group Policies? Or maybe I should be asking if this is even possible?
I appreciate in advance for any help your able to give! :)
2) Use Automator to create an application and have it run at login.
specifically to mount network drives use "get specified servers"
and add servers as smb://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/mountfolder add as many as you need.
Then use "Connect to servers"
Save as an application and then in Accounts add to the login items.
Using Automator you will be able to do many other things on startup as well.

short but sweet.

Hello,
I am planning on getting a 2011 15" MacBook Pro and have experience with Macs and Boot Camp. However, I am not 100% sure on this question and was hoping y'all could help.
I am going to have a 128GB SSD in the main HD slot. I will also have a 500GB 5400 RPM hard drive in the opti-bay. I am planning on partitioning the SSD to give OS X 64GB and Windows 7 64GB. My question is...if I install just the Windows OS on the SSD, will I be able to install the Windows programs to the hard drive in the opti-bay slot? I will also use the opti-bay drive to hold music, pictures, videos, etc. for both OS X and Windows.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks GG. As I said, I should have researched Gainsaver more carefully here in this very forum prior to purchasing from them. Hopefully I can save someone else the elevated heartrate and sheer frustration of dealing with those clowns.

Conflicting information here. :)
So iOS 4.2 brought AirPlay video streaming to a few select Apple apps like iPod/Videos and YouTube. The Verizon iPhone should have been been able to do that from day one, as it shipped with iOS 4.2.5/4.2.6.
iOS 4.3 introduced support for AirPlay video streaming from Safari and third-party apps. iMovie for iOS is another one that requires iOS 4.3 for streaming projects via AirPlay.
So to settle this once and for all, can anybody with a Verizon iPhone double check to make sure they do have the AirPlay capabilities from 4.2 and NOT those from 4.3 with the new iOS 4.2.8? Remember, we're specifically talking about video here. Krevnik says that this is the case, but we'd like a few more data points to counteract claims that there has been a change.
We've seen just a couple reports claiming that video AirPlay has been added to the Verizon iPhone with 4.2.8, but we think it's confusion over the limited support that originally existed vs. what non-Verizon devices can do under 4.3.

hi john123,
i saw a post or two from kela after you left
eyelikeart is still one of the top posters
and i hope to hear from an incarnation, at least a more polite one, of spikey
monkeybusiness has not been around for awhile and you were still heavily here when anonymous poster and anonymous coward left the fold
blakespot does not come around much anymore
but it's really great to see you back
i have had to get used to new waves of posters every three months or so, but if you give the new high end contributers a chance, you may find that you like them

That's normal that you mostly see people posting about their problems or they want to bitch about something. You know, it's kinda like this: sunny weather and nice breeze don't make a headline :)
The idea behind iMac is that you just take it out of the box, plug it in and within a couple of mins, you're on the internet and doing your own thing. There are people who want to push hardware and software to their limit, but again, that's actually minority among iMac users.

I perused it a bit, and the screen shots did throw me in for a bit of a loop. I wasn't sure what to look out for. Perhaps Spotlight-like dimming only the relevant information and the removal of extraneous items like signatures, could help make it easier for someone to digest.
The screen shots could be saved as .GIFs instead of JPEGs for more space savings. What's the Wiki etiquette on other users updating an original Guider's screenshots?
I'm a newb at this, but something like this might be helpful. (#2.)
Thank you for your feedback. :)
I will start working on the images, and provide smaller (more to the point) screen shots for the guide.
I would think part of the etiquette would be to provide some (any) feedback in regards to why the guide was moved, or labeled as ugly. There has to be a reason, otherwise why move it?

Yes, bring this thread back to life!
I looked thru that apple listing of keystrokes, but I couldn't find one to restore windows (or I overlooked it). That is, if a window of an app is minimized onto the dock and you select the app by apple+tab, is there a keystroke to restore the window so I don't have to use the mouse to find it on the dock and click on it?
Thanks!
